Tom Pidcock admits he will miss the 2025 Tour de France

Tom Pidcock will not compete in this year's Tour de France, an interview with the Q36.5 rider by BBC Sport has revealed.

Pidcock won the Alpe d'Huez stage in his first Tour de France appearance in 2022, and has since competed in cycling's top event twice.

In 2023, he finished 16th overall, and in 2024, his best result was a second-place finish in a stage featuring gravel roads in the first week of the race after he abandoned during COVID-19.

If Pidcock were to miss the Tour de France in 2025 for the first time in four years, he promised to participate in the Tour a year and a half later, adding that the rest would allow him to race with greater enthusiasm.

“I'll give myself a year off from the Tour and aim for Tour 2026,” Pidcock told BBC Sport on Sunday.

“I'm happy to have a year away from the Tour. When I come back, I will come back with refreshed energy."

”I'm looking forward to the Tour.

Pidcock, who quit the British WorldTour team Ineos Grenadiers at the end of 2024, will then join Q36.5 and make his debut in the five-stage AlUla Tour in Saudi Arabia on January 28.

However, as a member of the Professional Team League, Q36.5 is dependent on invitations from the Tour and other top events to participate in the sport's biggest races.

Pidcock told the BBC that he hopes to be able to focus on one-day racing in 2025. He also won the 2023 Liège-Bastogne-Liège, the best ever British runner-up in the Ardennes Monument.

“We don't have complete control over the calendar,” he said.

“But theoretically I should be able to do all the races I want to.”

Besides the AIUIa Tour, nothing has yet been revealed about Pidcock's race program for 2025; the three Grand Tours have yet to announce their choice of wildcard teams for the season.

However, it is widely expected that the addition of a top-level name like Pidcock to Q36.5 will increase his chances of being invited to several high-profile World Tour stage races and one-day races.

Pidcock and his team are currently training in Calpe, Spain. This weekend, the team unveiled its 2025 model kit, and Pidcock appeared with his teammates in a promotional campaign.
