Tour Down Under, Big Names and Young Super Talent on Starting List

Santos Tour Down Under has announced the full entry list for the 2025 Australian stage race. In the men's race, defending champion Stevie Williams (Israel Premier Tech), plus Geraint Thomas (Ineos Grenadiers), Alberto Bettiol (XDS Astana), Luke Plapp (Jayco Alura), 2023 winner Jay Byrne (UAE Team Emirates XRG), Jai Hindley (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), Dylan van Baarle (Vimalies a Bike), and Damien Howson, who leads the Australian National Team.

The women's peloton includes Ruby Roseman-Gannon (Rib Arla Jayco), Chloe Diggart (Canyon Slam), Amanda Spratt (Lidl Trek), Ruth Edwards (Human Powered Health), Allison Jackson (EF Education Oratory), and Olympic silver medalist Allie Wollaston (FDJ Suez); 2024 winner Sarah Gigante will miss the race due to recent surgery for iliac artery endarterial disease. [Tour Down Under Race Director Stuart O'Grady said, “Having eight national champions in the men's and women's peloton shows the depth of athletes in the 25th anniversary event and I think we're in for some incredible racing this summer.”

The women's Tour Down Under will be held January 17-19. The men's race is January 21-26 with six stages.

Tour de France mountain queen Justine Géquière is in the lineup for the AG Insurance-Soudal women's race, as is teammate Alexandra Manley of Adelaide. Tiffany Cromwell (Canyon Slam) also returns to Australia, while Lizzie Deighan enters the final season of her career as part of Lidl Trek.

The men's start list includes Canadian National Champion Mike Woods (Israel Premier Tech), 2024 runner-up Honatan Narvaez (who shares leadership with Bain, who has moved to UAE Team Emirates XRG), young French National Champion 's Paul Lapeira (Decathlon Ag2R La Mondiale), Michal Kwiatkowski and American Magnus Sheffield (Ineos Grenadiers) are also included.

19-year-old Spanish super talent Pablo Torres will make his debut in Australia with UAE team Emirates XRG.

Aaron Gate will be aiming for sprint and UCI ranking with Bettiol and Sergio Higgits on XDS Astana, while Sam Welsford will lead the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe sprint team.

Plapp will lead the Australian riders, including Luke Durbridge, Michael Hepburn, and Lucas Hamilton.
