Maxim van Gils joins Red Bull - Bora-Hansgrohe after divorce from Lot Dostny

Maxime van Gils joins Red Bull-Bohra-Hansgrohe following his divorce from Lot Danti. The Belgian rider has agreed to a three-year contract that will strengthen Red Bull-Bohra-Hansgrohe's mountain classics and stage race roster.

The 25-year-old van Gils had signed a new contract with Lotto earlier this year after exceeding expectations in a series of one-day classics. He finished third in Strade Bianche, seventh in Milan-San Remo, third in La Flèche Wallonne, and fourth in Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal. He also won the Canton-Aargau and Eschborn-Frankfurt GPs, which proved more valuable than his contract with Lotto.

The Belgian professional team was unable or unwilling to increase van Gils' contract any further and eventually agreed to release him.

Astana and Ineos Grenadier, which will be known as XDS Carbontech in 2025, were reportedly interested in signing Van Gils, but he chose to move to Red Bull - Bora-Hansgrohe.

“I am proud of my interest in Red Bull-Bohra-Hansgrohe. From the first moment I felt a special connection with the team. Now I want to work hard with them to achieve our big goals. My adventure in my new colors starts tomorrow!” he said.

Maxim van Gils will join Red Bull-Bohra-Hansgrohe at their training camp in Spain on Tuesday and will probably wear their colors on training rides.

Red Bull-Bohra-Hansgrohe team manager Ralf Denk cautiously thanked Lott for allowing van Gils to switch teams. Last year he lost Sian Uitdebroeks to Visma Lease-a-Bike in a similar divorce.

“I am grateful to his advisor (Lotto's team manager) Stefan Eulot and myself for the professional way we handled the situation after Maxim said he wanted to change teams. It made the transfer possible,” Denk said

.

Van Gils joins Primoz Roglic, Jai Hindley, Alexandre Vlasov, Dani Martinez, and other newcomers Oia Lazcano, Lawrence Petit, and Giulio Pellizzari at Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe.

“It's no coincidence to be on the podium at Strade and Ardennes, especially at that young age,” Denk said of Van Gils.

“It shows not only strength, but also potential. We intend to develop this in our performance regime.”
