Taddei Pogachar Targets 2025 Tour de France, But Not Paris-Roubaix; Undecided on Giro or Vuelta

Tadej Pogachar aims to win his fourth Tour de France in 2025, followed by either the Giro d'Italia or the Vuelta a España.

The UAE Team Emirates leader's main goals for 2025 also include the Strade Bianche, Milan-San Remo, Tour de Flanders, and the UCI Road World Championships in Rwanda He will miss Paris-Loubis in 2025.

While the defense of the Tour de France will be the centerpiece of Pogachal's season, the final decision on the Giro d'Italia in May and the Vuelta a España in August will depend on the route of the two Grand Tours. Teams have suggested the Giro d'Italia route, but UAE Team Emirates is waiting for the Vuelta to be announced on December 19.

“We need to wait for the Vuelta announcement to make a decision,” UAE Team Emirates sports manager Joxen Mateixin Fernandez revealed at the team's media day before Pogachar spoke about his plans.

“For now he is focused on the Tour de France and will make a decision after the Vuelta presentation. Of course he will do the Vuelta for a year or two, but that is something that has not been decided yet.

Will Pogachar do three Grand Tours?

“Not this year,” Matsin admitted.

The race programs of other Grand Tour leaders such as Juan Ayuso, Joan Almeida, and Adam Yates will depend on Pogachar's Giro and Vuelta plans. If Pogachar ultimately chooses to compete in the Vuelta, Ayuso and Yates could race in Italy in May.

Pogachar will start the 2025 season on the UAE Tour after a two-year absence. He looks to be a strong candidate to win his third home race for UAE Team Emirates; the UAE Tour will take place February 17-23.

He will then head to Italy for the Strade Bianche on March 8, run the Moulin San Remo on March 22, and head to Belgium for the Tour of Flanders on April 6. He will also campaign the E3 Saxo Classic and the Cobblestone Classic in Ghent-Wevelgem before taking on the Ardennes Classic in late April.

Pogachar will prepare for the Tour de France with a high-altitude camp at the Criterium du Dauphiné in June.

Pogachar's second half of the season will depend on whether he competes in the Vuelta a España. The world championship road race will be held on September 28 in the Rwandan capital of Kigali, but he will need time to adjust to traveling and racing in the highlands of Africa.
