Good news for cycling fans: you can watch cyclocross for free in many parts of the world.

The sport's governing body, the UCI, hosts free streams of the UCI World Cup Series and UCI World Championships on its own UCI YouTube channel. However, the broadcasts are subject to regional restrictions and can only be viewed in countries that do not have television contracts with outside broadcasters.

Regional restrictions vary from event to event, but since “Eurosport” and “Discovery+” broadcast all World Cup and World Championship races, fans in the UK and Ireland are always blocked from streaming. In the U.S., Canada, and Australia, however, they are often free to watch.

Due to cyclocross' strong roots in Belgium, RTBF in the French-speaking south and VRT / Sporza in the Flemish-speaking north regularly broadcast all series races on free-to-air public television. The Superprestige, X2O Trophy, and Exacto Cross series are all covered, so whatever race is on in Belgium can usually be seen on TV or online for free. Italy's RAI always airs the World Cup, and Spain's RTVE will be broadcasting the race in Benidorm in January.

If you are away from home, you can still access your usual stream using a VPN.

If you are outside your area and need to access a live streaming service to watch the match, you may find that access is regionally restricted. However, that does not mean you will not be able to watch the races; you will still have access to the live streaming service.

In this case, a VPN can help. A virtual private network (formally known as a VPN) makes it look like your computer is in another country, allowing you to log into your streaming account and catch all of the race action.

Fellow TechRadar experts recommend using a VPN not only for streaming, but also for enhanced cybersecurity.

Cyclocross coverage in the US is a bit disjointed, split between Floobikes and Max.

FloBikes is a cycling-focused streaming platform that offers cyclocross action from a variety of series, including the World Cup. However, their schedule does not cover all series and is subject to change, so it is worth keeping an eye on what they have scheduled.Flobikes subscriptions cost $149.99 per year or $29.99 per month.

Meanwhile, Max, the US-based streaming platform owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, has begun adding cycling rights to 2024. This will include some cyclocross coverage across the Superprestige, Exact Cross, and X2O Trofee series, but not the UCI World Cup series or UCI World Championships. Maximum subscriptions start at $10 per month, but require the B/R Sports add-on, which costs an additional $10 per month.

That said, UCI YouTube's free cyclocross World Cup live streams are usually not geo-restricted in the US, so you can find top-level action for free.

FloBikes also operates in Canada and will offer many of the services it offers in the U.S. Please check the schedule for updates.

Subscriptions to FloBikes are CAN$150 per year or CAN$29.99 per month.

The UCI World Cup and UCI World Championships will be broadcast for free in Canada on the UCI Youtube page.

Eurosport and Discovery+, the self-proclaimed “home of cycling” in the UK, have a packed program for the 2024-2025 cyclocross season: all rounds of the UCI World Cup, UCI World Championships, and Superprestige, the X2O Trophy, and the Exactocross Series will also see action.

Eurosport is a TV channel, available in most packages. Discovery+, on the other hand, is an online streaming platform where all cyclocross races are more consistently available.

A “standard” subscription to Discovery+, which is required to watch Eurosport's cycling coverage, costs £6.99/€4.99 per month or £59.99/€49.99 per year.

This means that, thankfully for UK fans, they will be locked out of the UCI's free stream as described above. If you are a Discovery+ subscriber and want to watch outside the UK, or if you are visiting the UK and want to watch the regular UCI YouTube feed, you will need a VPN such as NordVPN in either case.

For commentary and coverage of the top cyclocross series in Belgium, the country that knows cyclocross best, go to Sporza or RTBF - for free. In the Netherlands, on NOS.

As in the UK, Eurosport coverage is broadcast in most parts of Europe. Somewhat confusingly, there are two channels in some countries, “Discovery+” and “Max” (different from “Max” in the US).

In some countries, there are two channels: RAI in Italy, TV2 in Denmark, J Sports in Japan, Astro in Malaysia, STVR in Slovakia, and CT Sport in the Czech Republic.

A full list of international broadcasters for the World Cup is published by the UCI for each round on the UCI website.

Not to forget, cyclocross is hosted on the UCI's YouTube channel in countries where there are no broadcasters, and is completely free to watch. And don't forget that with a VPN you can watch from anywhere, even on the move.
