Steve Cummings joins Jaco Arula as sports director after leaving the Ineos Grenadier

Steve Cummings spoke to jayco AlUla after deciding to "step away" from his role at Ineos Grenadiers after months of reporting and speculation about his role and the struggles and changes within the team.

While Cummings was the race director at Ineos Grenadiers, Kurt Asle Arvesen recently became the lead. It was announced as Sports Director. Cummings oversaw the Ineos Grenadier for several years at the Tour de France, but was removed from the role just days before this year's race due to difficulties with his relationship with Tom Pidcock.

The team claimed that Cummings played the remote role during the tour, but he preferred not to comment on internal issues, including the role of Tom Pidcock, after he was "deselected" for Il Lombardia by senior management.

Cummings announced that he had never talked about his difficulties at Ineos Grenadiers and had left the team via his LinkedIn page. He will soon join Jayco AlUla at his 12-month training camp in Spain and will work with Ben O'Connor, the ace leader of the new stage.

"I'm really excited to be part of team Jayco AlUla. This team has a strong reputation for its professionalism and commitment to success, which is consistent with my own values and experience in the sport," Cummings said.

"For me, this is an opportunity to be part of a culture that celebrates growth, resilience and meaningful results, rather than just joining a team. Naturally, cycling, having a long career between on and off, I already know many team members and with them rolling their sleeves up

The 43・year・old Cummings is using his talent and tactical skills to win 2 stages at the Tour de France. I've been racing professionally for 15 years.

Jayco AlUla Team Manager Brent Copeland is confident Cummings will be a big asset.

"We are delighted to have Steve on our team in 2025. His personality and professionalism is something we believe fits very well in our culture," explained Copeland. "Steve has a very broad skill set and won at the highest level during his time as a professional rider, first understanding what it means to be the rider himself

"During his first conversation about the team, I was really impressed by Steve's attention to detail and visionary approach.  I immediately felt that he would bring the dynamic energy that we benefit from everything."
