Remco Evenepoel was reportedly taken to hospital after a training crash in Belgium after colliding with a postal vehicle.

The Double Olympic Champion was conscious and was seen sitting upright after the incident. Soudal-QuickStep team boss Patrick Lefevere provided the first update that Evenepoel "has pain in the shoulder and hand," but the full severity of the injury turned out to be worse than the first thought.

Belgian media reported that Evenepoel could not avoid the Bpost postal car door that opened in front of him, but the full details of the crash have also been confirmed yet.

Evenpoel's gold bike was also snapped completely into 2 after the crash.

"Unfortunately, such accidents occur 1 time in 5 days, people who do not open the door without attention," Lefevere told Sporza. 

"REMCO has pain in his shoulder and hand. Our doctors are working on it. His bicycle was broken into 2 in the incident. But it is better to have 2 of his bikes than his arms.

The 24-year-old was now taken to Erasmus Hospital in Anderlecht, where his family joined him.

"We don't know ourselves more. He was taken to the Erasmus Hospital in Anderlecht. He has already sent us a message, so I hope everything is okay. From what I heard, he fell after colliding with the swing door of the Bpost truck.His father Patrick Evenepoel told Het Nieuwsblad.

Bpost is also responding to the incident, confirming that it is one of the vehicles, even if Poel collides.1 

"We confirm that an incident involving Bpost cars and cyclist Remco Evenepoel occurred this morning," said spokesman Mathieu Goedefroy in a statement to Sporza.

"Unfortunately, we can't get into the details of the accident, not to mention that the postman and Bpost are fully cooperating with the investigation. Police arrived at the scene to make the necessary observations.

"The postman also stayed on the scene until Remco was taken to the hospital. They are very affected by the incident. We wish REMCO a speedy recovery and hope that the impact on him will be minimal."

Even Paul was in full swing of training again before the start of the 12th and 1st training camp and the 2025 season. He was also recently in the United States for wind tunnel testing at his professional headquarters in California, where he spent the weekend at the F1 Qatar Grand Prix.
