Remco Evenepoel underwent a successful operation after suffering several injuries in Tuesday's "scary" training clash.
The Belgian provided an update by putting his arm into the sling from his hospital bed after confirming that Sudar Quickstep suffered fractures to his ribs, right shoulder and right hand. After also maintaining ligament damage due to clavicle dislocation, Evenepoel knows that it will be a long journey back to full fitness, which will affect winter training.
Evenepoel reportedly got into the door of a parked Bpost postal car that opened in front of him while riding in Oetingen, Belgium, and then he was taken to two hospitals for a full assessment.
On Instagram, Evenepoel said, "After a terrible accident in training yesterday, I had surgery last night and everything went well."
"It will be a long journey as all surrounding ligaments have been torn due to bruises to my ribs, scapula, hands and lungs, and dislocation of my right collarbone, but I am fully focused on my recovery and determined to come back strong step by step.
"The comeback begins now."
has just begun to gear up for his 2025 campaign, and Evenepoel will be at the planned 12-month training camp in Spain with his Soudal-QuickStep teammates.
His team also announced in Tuesday evening's update that Evenepoel will have a "2-week training camp" after surgery. You can then make a plan to return to training, announcing that you are likely to need a "fixed period".
Evenepoel shared a message of gratitude to all those in the emergency services who helped him after Tuesday's incident and to his family who were on the scene soon after.
"I am very grateful for all the help and support I have received in the past 24 hours. From the emergency services, the neighbors who helped me in the first moments, the medical team of Anderlecht and Herentals, and our team doctor Phil Jansen," Evenepoel said.
"Also a special mention to my wife, my family and everyone for their supportive message that stood beside me in these difficult moments.
After Bpost announced that the postal workers involved were "very affected by the incident" in a statement.
Evenepoel also expressed his "support for the women involved in the accident.""
