Tom Pidcock will leave the Ineos Grenadier at the end of 2024 after reaching an agreement to terminate the contract. British riders are expected to participate in the second division Q36.5ProTeam in the next few days.
Dan Benson first reported the news on his Substack page, and a trusted source confirmed to Cyclingnews that Pidcock would leave Ineos Grenadiers and become team leader in q36.5 from WorldTour level.
Shortly after the Ineos Grenadier confirmed the news.
"INEOS Grenadiers today announced that Tom Pidcock will leave the team at the end of the season," a brief statement said.
"The British multidisciplinary rider has been racing with the INEOS Grenadiers since 2021, making it part of the sport's iconic and memorable moments."
John Allert, CEO of Ineos Grenadiers, said, "We are really proud of the work we have done with Tom. Together we wrote a powerful chapter to show how exciting and diverse professional cycling is.
"Tom has some great interdisciplinary goals and this decision allows us both to pursue future ambitions with clarity, purpose and determination
"We thank Tom for the last four years and wish him the best luck for the future.
Pidcock was seen at the Ineos Grenadiers 11 May camp in Manchester, but oddly does not appear in the team's social media posts and videos Many of the Grenadiers in Ineos have gathered in central Spain for the 12 May training camp, but Pidcock has not been seen since. After spending some time at bases in Andorra and Girona, he is reportedly not there.
A reliable source told Cyclingnews that Pidcock plans to sign a contract with the q36.5 team and that billionaire team backer Ivan Glasenberg will finance the transfer. Pidcock reportedly earned more than 300 million euros a year at Ineos Grenadiers.
Cyclingnews understands that Pidcock will use Scott bikes in 2025 Q36.5, but will continue to use Pinarello mountain bikes when he competes off-road. Glasenberg owns the q36.5 clothing brand and team and recently bought a controlling stake in Pinarello.
It is unclear whether the Ineos Grenadier will try to sign a replacement for Pidcock in 2025. Maxim van Giles has yet to confirm his future team after leaving Lotto Dstny after going through a similar process to terminate his contract early.
Pidcock was contracted to remain an Ineos rider until 2027 as one of their key leaders, but his relationship with the team has collapsed in recent months, especially after he was "deselected" from Il Lombardia despite being their strongest rider.
The Double Olympic champion has had success at Ineos after turning professional in 2021, winning the Alpe d'Huez on the Tour de France stage, winning the Strade Bianche solo and winning this year's Amstel Gold race.
However, as the team's highest-paid rider Geraint Thomas described him, he has not yet met the team's expectations or his own expectations, especially at the Tour de France.
