Lotte Copecky wins 2024 Belodor Award for Tadezipogasar

Lotte Copecky and Tadezipogasar won the Velodor Award for Men and Women of the year, which was announced at a formal ceremony in Paris on Friday night. Kopecky and Pogaçar were also awarded the Eddy Merckx trophy for Best Classics rider.

Created in 1992, Vélo D'Or aims to be crowned the best rider in the world at the end of each season.  The winner for the second time in its 32-year history was revealed directly at a ceremony attended by most of the candidates.

Runner・up In the past 2022 years of the Vero d'Or Femmes Award since its creation, Kopecky has won the Road World Championship title, Paris Roube, Strad Bianche, Tour de Romandi, Simac Ladies Tour, Giro d'Italia overall 2nd place and Olympic bronze medals. In addition, he won the top honors with the strength of the season.

Kopecky, who is currently staying at Team SD Worx-Protime's Team Building camp in Finland, was unable to attend the ceremony held at Pavillon Gabriel, just off the Champs-Elysees, and provided a recorded video message.

Only Pogasar will be honored as the best male rider in the world in 2024. The 26-year-old dominated the season with 25 wins, including the Giro d'Italia Tour de France Double, the Road World Championship, Liege-Bastogne-Liege and Il Lombardy. He also claimed Tirreno-Adriatico and Paris-Nice. Pogaçar also won the Velo D'Or in 2021.

In attendance at the ceremony, Pogasar was awarded the Eddy Merckx Trophy For Best Classics rider By Tom Boonen.

Luis Angel Maté was awarded the first Gino Meder Award for his commitment to environmental and social initiatives. The award was created in honor of the late Swiss rider Gino Meder, who tragically died in the 2023 Tour de Switzerland crash and was deeply committed to environmental issues, and honors the rider's dedication to having a positive impact on social and environmental issues.

On May 9, the Spanish veteran celebrated his retirement by riding 600km from the Vuelta finish in Madrid to his home in Marbella, southern Spain. In the 2022 Vuelta, Maté promised to plant trees in the Sierra de Vermeja Mountains near his home for every 1 km he spent in the detachment. The effort was a response to a devastating forest fire that severely affected the region.

Olympic mountain bike gold medalists Pauline Ferran Prevo and Roman Valde are recognized as the top French riders of the past season Ferran Prevo, the world champion, has received the Trofé Daniel Morelon for the Olympic competition for 2 consecutive years. "I'm not going to do that," he said. Bardet was awarded the Bernard Innot Trophy, the highest award for a French road cyclist.

Harrie Lavreysen, a triple Olympic track gold medalist and 16-time world champion at the Paris Games, was awarded the trophy for the best Olympic men's rider. The 27-year-old Dutchman was unable to attend the ceremony because he was competing in the UCI Track Champions League in London.

Double Paralympic champion and world champion Alexandreléauté won the best French para-cyclist Vélod'or.
