Paris Olympic gold medalist Katie Merchant broke her arm in a shocking crash at the UCI Track Champions League at London's Lee Valley Veropark on Saturday night. During the first round of the Keirin, Marchant and Alessa-Catriona Pröpster flew into the crowd at high speed over the trackside glass barrier.
In the 2nd heat of the Keirin, Propster raised the truck high, collided at high speed with the British rider and catapulted the pair over the barrier.
According to british Cycling, the race was quickly cancelled as 2 riders and 4 spectators were treated by the event's medic. Marchant was transferred to the hospital for further treatment.
X-rays revealed that Merchant suffered a fractured radius and ulna in his battle forearm, as well as 2 dislocated fingers.
"Katie is fine and has received excellent care from her medical team. We hope Katie will recover fully and quickly," British Cycling said in a statement posted to x (formerly twitter).
The Track Champions League also added in a statement that "We are also pleased to report that the audience, as well as the other riders involved in the incident, Alessa-Catriona Pröpster (Germany), left the venue after receiving medical attention."

The incident caused injuries to both cyclists and spectators. A 1.4 metre-high Perspex safety barrier was installed at the venue, which, according to InsidetheGames, cost £250,000 this summer.
At the Paris Olympics, a merchant with British team・mates Emma Finucane and Sophie Capewell won gold in the Women's team sprint and set a new world record.
The final round of the Track Champions League was finally canceled.
