The issue of aesthetics at the age of € 16.7k Colnago new at the top level "divides opinion on looks, but insists on greater performance improvements

Cornago as a brand tends to create enough of its own buzz that the new models that are leaking to the weightweenies become independent stories in themselves, but given that in recent years the brand has been inexorably linked with one tadej Pogañar, a brand new from the famous Italian brand. Interest in the model is immeasurable. This is a completely new machine, not a new version of an existing model, such as V3Rs, which replaces the v4Rs.

According to Colnago in the document on the development of the new machine, "The V4Rs is a perfect all-rounder, but for certain races, you need a focused exercise bike." Given the current world champion Palmares, V4Rs is unlikely to hold Poganyar, despite what Tom Boonenen thought before hurriedly retracting his opinion, and as the race gets faster and faster, riders often choose an exercise bike as their default.

Alpecin riders are basically just riding the DSM on Canyon Aero Road, Scott Foils, and while the Y1Rs is "for a specific race," you wouldn't be surprised to see the v4Rs being housed for the high mountains and used as standard throughout the season. Despite many brands sticking to single bike solutions (Specialized Tarmac, Pinarello Dogma F), the pendulum of development is now swinging towards multiple bikes.

Creating an entirely new model obviously requires slightly more work than iterating over an existing model. At the time of this story going live, I will be in the air, meet with the UAE team Emirates and UAE Team ADQ jet Colnago to winter training camp and how this latest machine is, according to Colnago data, at least the program received about "the most aerodynamic UCI compliant road bike tour in the world". What I know from the less material is the following

I'm going to start from the front and work backwards. Given that this is an exercise bike, the leading edge is the most important and is where most of the work is done. To start with the cockpit, the Y1Rs has a brand new setup: CC.Y1 handlebar.

The Y-shaped bar is certainly not new, but it's the starting point for the brand. Cervélo, like the Bianchi Oltre, had a similar option for some time in the S5. The theory is that the bar top is relatively aerodynamic, hitting narrow and clean air. In aero terms, "squat and turbulence" is a body that gets up and away from the top section of the head tube. Moving the bar up and down means cleaner airflow over the bike's body, helped by a much deeper head tube than seen on the V4Rs.

For sprinters, the cockpit is "16% stiffer in vertical and lateral stiffness" compared to the "selected reference handlebar" for which the model is not specified, as it tends to ache violently at the bar.

The bar, along with the Bayonet fork I go into hot seconds, has a 4% reduction in front area compared to v9Rs. Front Front view Not so extreme, as seen on the tread track bikes of the Argentina team, but they are very reminiscent. It may not seem like you can mount the computer, but at the base of Y there is a bolt for mounting the front computer.

y1Rs replaced the traditional steerer tube with a bayonet fork, as seen in the Colnago TT1 and competitor Cervélo S5, as mentioned earlier. This has the effect of stretching the head tube forward, but it can also "improve how air affects the front area of the bike," according to Colnago. In addition to the deeper head tube, it is my suspicion that the slight indentation where the front of the fork meets the head tube acts like a trip strip, guiding controlled turbulence and helping the airflow "release" from the frame. This is about the same theory that the Danish track cycling team uses strips of body tape at the Tokyo Olympics.

The down tube is at least upstream of it and tightly hugs the tire in a way reminiscent of a special vengevia. At the bottom, it houses an integrated bottle cage designed around the standard 500ml bidon. This is in contrast to the likes of the Trek Madone and Cannondale Super Six Evo, both of which cut the bottle for aerogain. Colnago clearly supports practicality and relationships with professional teams. Even though Madone is designed with aero bottles, Lidl-Trek riders use standard bidons because they are ubiquitous and also used in neutral service. The down tube also contains a Di2 battery for Shimano Build, as it cannot be done with a seat tube design. Just unscrew the bottle cage and some bolts under it, and it will be the battery compartment.

Ok, let's get into that controversy- if you like to pour over Instagram comments- seat clusters. It may seem like aero play only, but it's also obviously a move to add compliance. More like the latest Madone cluster, the seatpost is effectively cantilevered off the frame, allowing more deflection than the vertical seatpost is.

Removing the seat tube from the seat post in this way allows the seat tube to be scraped at a much slacker angle, allowing the rear wheel to be more fully embraced for aerodynamic gain. What's more, it allegedly improves pedaling efficiency thanks to increased rigidity and creates a smaller rear triangle.

The angle of the seat post means that the up/down adjustment will have a big impact on the saddle retraction, but according to the document, the seat post should be cut to size fairly accurately, and it only takes about 1.5cm to adjust up and down.

This fitting difficulty means that it was slightly new to design the frame geometry. Cornago has sponsored 4 teams, 2 World Tours and 2 lower levels, and we've taken fit data from these 3 teams over the past 4 seasons to make sure the saddle and bar positions are right for the pros. Cornago says that while 97% of riders can fit Y1Rs, some riders do not fit in extreme cases.

Colnago tested the Y1Rs against "the top aerodynamic road bikes currently on the market." Our wind tunnel tests show that the most aerodynamic bikes depend somewhat on the test protocol and the yaw angle being tested (the yaw is the angle at which the wind hits the bike).

Y1Rs is a fully yaw sweep from -15 to +15º and a dressed mannequin at 25 watts and at 50km/h in a bike-only test. It is said to be faster than the V4Rs 28 watts. Giving Pogañar a saving of 25 watts is a very scary prospect, but against its closest competitors, the Y1Rs is faster than the "only" claimed 8 watts. This probably indicated that the V4Rs did not match up at all with other Peloton bikes in terms of aero, although there are obviously no obstacles.

It is worth noting that the "top exercise bike" was different by scenario and yaw angle, rather than simply comparing it to a single competitor.

All this aero costs in terms of grams. For the likes of Y1Rs vs. v4Rs, the build-like is 242g.Geometrically the y1Rs is steeper to shift the scale in the direction of y1Rs, both the head tube and the efficient seat tube to the front end to move the rider further forward. The longer the reach, the easier it is for longer, lower and more aggressive positions. The hug of the wheel by the down tube and the seat tube appears to create a shorter wheelbase, but it is only 3mm.

Y1Rs is available in 5 configurations and framesets. At launch, only UAE Team Emirates team colors and UAE Team ADQ 2 colors will be available. Of course, pogañar has a model of a rainbow.

The builds are: Both the top Shimano and Campagnolo builds are more expensive than any other production road bike on the World Tour.
