The 25-year-old is free to move to another team for the 2025 season, despite signing a new contract only this spring amid the good form run he carried through the summer.
"Lotto-Dstny and Maxim Van Gils have reached an agreement today to terminate the rider's contract," the team announced. "With UCI approval, Van Gils' current contract is terminated. After 7 years of successful stories together, Lotto-Dstny hopes Maxim Van Gils will be the best of his further cycling career.
Red Bull Bora Hansgrohe looks to be in pole position to secure Van Giles' signature next season. But several other teams, including Astana・Kazakstan and Ineos Grenadiers, are also hoping to sign him.
Van Giles signed a new contract with Lotto earlier this year after beating expectations in a series of day races, including 3rd place in Strade Bianche and 7th place in Milan San Remo, 1st place.
He won at GP Kantonsaargau and Eschborn-Frankfurt, took the podium at la Flèche Wallonne and GP Miguel Indurain, and made top 5 results at Liege・Bastogne・Liege and GP Montreal.
Just a week ago, the news broke that Van Gils was already trying to break his contract with ProTeam.
With Van Gils free to seek a contract with a new team, Lotto-Dstny faces the challenge of replacing one of the top riders (Van Gils was ranked 14th in the UCI rankings in 2024).
"Maxim came into our team as a young talent, he gave young riders a chance and helped them grow into the best riders possible
"Over the past few years we have been committed to providing young talent with a home where they can grow and build careers with maximum professionalism. We have made it our mission. When they finally spread their wings, that's something we can really be proud of.
"We are sorry that we broke up today, but we have reached a mutual agreement with Maxim and his management team A&J All Sports. If this change makes him happy and helps him continue to grow, we will not get in his way. We will continue to look for young talent and guide them, as is one of the values of the team.
Vangils thanked the team for helping him grow into today's rider and called Lotto-Dstny his "2nd family."
"Seven years is quite a long time, I have so many beautiful memories with the team. I am very grateful that Lotto-Dstny gave me the opportunity to turn professional as one of the u23 riders," Van Giles said.
"Thanks to this team and its sponsors, I was able to grow and take a step towards today's riders. Next year I will be on another jersey, but I will never forget my second family, where Lotto-Dstny was."
