I've recently spent a lot of time testing all kinds of lights to pull together my guide to the best bike lights. I've tried stuff with all the bells and whistles for hundreds and even hundreds of dollars, and I've also tried a lot at the end of the spectrum bargain.
What I have learned is that, with a few exceptions, "smart" features tend to complicate things unless you invest time to figure out all the features Dumb lights, or the ones that people just use to call "bike lights" are more user-friendly.
For me the epitome of this is the amazing Cateye AMPP900. It is simple, durable, bright and inexpensive. It's not on offer on Black Friday, at least still, but check out the Black Friday Bike Deal Hub regularly - but there are plenty of other lights in the AMPP range.

You basically have to choose your brightness. Anything from the puny AMPP100 (AMPP200 is the same price, so don't buy this) to the dazzling AMPP2200 can be yours. The best deal for many in the UK is in the AMPP800, which is very commute-friendly, or the AMPP1700, which can happily take off-road.
For people in the United States, the discount is a little small, it is not the biggest discount, but my choice is to go for Cateye AMPP900. It is the best option for most people and in most cases it is cheap to die for what it does. That's why my "best budget front Light" in the guide.
