Muriel Fuller's family and friends recently attended a memorial service to commemorate the 18・year-old Swiss rider who died at the Uci World Championships in Zurich. An investigation into the cause of her tragic death continues.
Furrer suffered serious head injuries when he crashed in unknown circumstances during the Junior Women's road race. Race officials and medical teams apparently had not seen Farrer crash and the question was about exactly how long she remained alone, without medical attention
Nearly 8 weeks after Furrer's death, Swiss authorities are continuing to investigate the cause that led to her crash and death. No criminal proceedings have been opened.
"An extensive investigation is under way, including the Forensic Institute of the University and the Forensic Institute of Zurich. The investigation has not yet been completed," the Zurich Prosecutor's Office told Swiss newspaper Brick.
"Not all investigative measures have been completed, so we cannot predict when the investigation will be completed at this time, for example, a pending report from the Forensic Institute.
The Prosecution did not rule out prosecution. The local organizing committee hosts the World Championships on behalf of UCI.
"In such cases, law enforcement authorities will always consider from the outset whether there has been criminal misconduct and whether criminal proceedings should be commenced as a result. To date, no criminal proceedings have been initiated," the Zurich Prosecutor's Office said.
Farrer's death caused an outpouring of emotion during the World Championships and afterwards.
Recently, hundreds of people, including family, friends and former teammates, gathered in Worcester, near Zurich, to remember Farrer. The mother of Gino Medell, who died after a crash in the Tour de Switzerland last year, also attended the memorial service.
The church was decorated with large pictures of Muriel, with hundreds of small candles and large pink candles surrounding a wreath of flowers spelling Muriel's name.
Her parents and family wrote a personal message, which was read by the priest.
'Why couldn't I go to your place' How are we supposed to live without you?Her mother Christine wrote.
"Muriel, you laughed so much, you had so many talents. I've always been one of your biggest fans.
"And we still had so many plans together. We will meet each other again in heaven, I look forward to it.
Zurich Councilor Mario Faer "Muriel continues to be our role model. She wants us to smile when we think of her.
The grave egg of Muriel Farrer, her hometown, is surrounded by flowers and photographs. One message is: "When the sun of life sets, the stars of memory shine.
Local councillor Mario Fehr gave a speech and touched on the subject of safety.
"There are too many deaths. The UCI will have to step up the safety debate and we will put a lot of pressure on it," he said.
