"Now there with the legend" - Canadian amateur breaks Strava record for the rise of Mortirolo

The limelight after a little-known Canadian amateur, Jack Burke, took more than a minute from Vincenzo Nibali's Strava record for scaling Mortirolo

The 29-year-old Burke reached Italy at 11:16, 67 seconds faster than Nibali's record at 43:45. Completed 1 climb of the toughest climb in the rear.

"I broke it...It's one of those days where you really have the best legs, you look at the power numbers and you're like – yeah, I'm on the good stuff today," he said in an instagrammed post from the top of the instagramm instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrammable instagrams.

A rider who has raced in multiple amateur and continental squads, Burke uses his impressive achievements to plead for a chance to get the first professional contract.

He said he had not planned this year's race, but in May "After being talked back to it, he broke records for the climb in three different events and well

"I do not know what I can do, did everything I can, wanted a chance, a chance to compete with the best man in the world." "I want a chance to get a chance to do something," he said in an Instagram post...

"I don't know what I can do, I did everything I could, I just want a chance, I said in an instagram post. "So...I've done everything I can and now it's time to go skiing, I guess, this is a good place to finish it for the year.Speaking in subzero temperatures at the Mortirolo Summit, he said, "It's time to warm up [but I'm there with the legend right now].

In his final year as a junior, 2013, and when leading the amateur race in Quebec, Canada, the Tour de la Bitibi, Burke had adverse analytical finding tests for the amount of diuretic hydrochlorothiazide [HCTZ]. But in 2 complex court cases, one to determine whether he could race in the world in 2013, which he won, and the second against the UCI appeal heard by CAS, he was cleared twice of wrongdoing, with responsibility placed on the consumption of contaminated tap water.

Since then, Burke has spent much of the past 10 years racing with teams and clubs across the continent. Among the former were the famous Leopard amateur team from Luxembourg and the Jelly Belly p/b Maxxis team from the United States in 2018.

While in the latter, Burke showed his climbing prowess at the Tour de Bose in Canada, winning solo on a freezing cold day at the top of Mont Mégantic. But the second half of his 2022 season suffered badly when he broke his back after crashing into a car during training.

Two years later, in addition to his Mortirolo record, Canada also claimed on Instagram that he broke the Strava record for Stelvio, which is one of the best known and most difficult climbs in Italy and is set to form part of the Giro d'Italia next year. However, Burke said he was not allowed to upload the file for unspecified reasons at the moment, but promised to upload it soon.

"I broke [Stelvio] records last week, but I wasn't supposed to tell you guys that. I'm supposed to keep that secret for a few more weeks," he said in an Instagram post, revealing that he's going to record Tadej Pogañar in Col de la Madone, pleading for an opportunity to race as a professional.

"If you're someone who can give me a professional contract, you're allowed to know that I broke the record last week," he said.  "But for everyone else, you pretend you haven't heard it for another few weeks until I'm allowed to post it.”
