Andrei Amador retires after not racing since being run over by a truck on May 5
Andrei Amador (EF Education-EasyPost) announced on Instagram that he has decided to retire from professional cycling before his contract with the team expires in 2025.

The 38-year-old has not competed since being attacked by a truck driver while training outside Barcelona on May 5. Amador reportedly ran his bike and foot beside the truck and suffered fractures to his ankle and foot.

"It was not an easy decision. It was not planned, but in life and cycling, it is necessary to listen to your body and take care of your health is a priority.

During his career, Amador won only 2 professional races: the stage of the Giro d'etalia in 2012 and the Classica in 2018. Primavera de Amorevier

He turned professional at Caisse d'peggne in 2009 and remained in the team (Movistar) until 2019, joining Ineos Grenadiers. He ran a 3-season race with the British team and signed with EF Education-EasyPost in 2023.

Amador has competed in the Tour de France and Giro d'Italia 7 times and finished the best grand tour in GC after Alberto Contador, Fabio Al and Mikel Landa in 2015.

"Although I say goodbye to professional cycling, I will always continue to connect with this sport I love," said Amador. "I value beautiful memories and the satisfaction of always performing the best on my bike. Now there are moments of rest and time to take care of my health. Thank you all, and always see you."
