Patrick Bevin retires despite contract with dsm - Firmenich- PostNL in 2025

Team DSM-Firmenich-PostNL has announced that Patrick Bevin will retire in 2025 rather than survive the final year of his contract with the WorldTour team.

Bevin, 33, suffered cardiac arrhythmias in 2020 and temporarily moved away from the race. According to Escape Collective, the issue resurfaced in 2024, keeping it away from competition for 4 months at the peak of the season. 

After undergoing cardiac ablation to correct the problem, Bevin returned to the race this year, but stopped on May 3 during Volta Ciclista A Catalunya. But neither the team nor Bevin mentioned heart problems as the reason for his early retirement.

"Today marks the end of an era that is my last day as a professional cyclist. Thanks to @dsmfirmpostnl who has been incredibly supportive throughout the last two seasons that have been very tough, but as of today I am retiring," Bevin said via Instagram in an unusual so

Bevin's professional career was the title of the Oceania Road race in the last junior season of 2009. It started after winning the World Championship. He then raced with the American Bissel team for 4 seasons. He won the 2014 An Post Ras 2 stage and the 2015 Tour de Towane and Tour de Korea stages and took part in the World Tour with the Cannondale Drapac team in 2016.

Then he raced BMC, CCC, and Israel Premiere Tech before joining the DSM in 2023. His Palmares includes the overall title of the Tour of Turkey (2022), the tour stage Down Under, the Tour de Romandi, the Herald Sun Tour, 2 countries of the time Trial

"It is not only the end of the season and the contract, but also the "Gap Year" of almost 15 years ago. "It's the end of chasing a dream that started with," Bevin said. 

"I've been chasing it as much as I can. I met an incredible number of good people. I have traveled far and wide and I will be forever grateful for all that cycling has brought me."
