Kasia Niewidoma (Canyon-SRAM), winner of the yellow jersey, is aiming to become the first woman to win the women's Tour de France again in 2025, when the new version of the event will be held for the fourth time as the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.
Organizer ASO unveiled the official route for the 2025 Tour de France Femmes this week at the Palais des Congrès in Paris, and Nieuwadema said she was disappointed that the nine-day race, which runs from July 26 to August 3, does not include a time trial, which she said is “a shame,” because the race is flat, hilly He approved a “balanced” route that includes flat, hilly, and mountain stages.
“It is great that the 2025 Tour de France Femmes Avec Zwift route is so diverse. There are many opportunities for different types of riders. I think the first stage suits our team very well, and the little uphill finish will get me excited about going for my first yellow jersey in the Tour with one of my teammates,” Niwiyadoma said.
The fourth edition of the Tour will reach new heights with nine stages. It will be the longest since the event was revived, traversing 1,165 km with a total elevation gain of 17,240 m.
The race will open in the Grande Palais in Brittany, with two flat stages, three hilly stages, two mid-mountain stages, and two alpine stages to conclude. There is no time trial in this year's event, but time trials have been held in Pau and Rotterdam in the past two editions.
The peloton will tackle the race's highest peak, the Madeleine Pass, on stage 8, and the next day, stage 9, will take the riders through the famous Joux Plain pass to the summit finale at Chatel-Chatel Les Portes du Soleil, where the overall champion will be decided.
“Overall, I expected there to be longer, harder stages each day, but instead there is a mix of different stages. I am a little sad that there is no team time trial. But the Col du Madeleine will give us enough trouble, so maybe we can balance it out with shorter stages before that... I like the 2025 course overall,” Nieuwiedma said.
Niewiadoma took the yellow jersey in the 2024 Tour de France by just four seconds over second-place finisher Demi Vollering (SD Works Pro Time) on the summit of Alpe d'Huez on the final eighth stage.
Niewiadoma felt that given the new route, he was in a good position to take the title for the second year in a row.
“I am excited to see the course and understand what I need to work on. My goal is to bring home the yellow jersey again.”
“My big goal is to be the woman to win Zwift at the Tour de France Femme for the second year in a row. The final overall standings can unfold at any point, but the last three stages will decide the overall.”
