CCC-Liv confirmed that all sponsors have fulfilled their previous obligations amid the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Polish shoe company CCC has decided to end its sponsorship of the men's World Tour team, but a spokesperson for the women's team reiterated that the two teams are separate organizations and have different contractual agreements from CCC.
"We understand that people are wondering if there will be an impact on CCC-Liv, and if so, what it will be," a team spokesperson told Cycling News.
"However, it is difficult to be very specific about this; I would like to emphasize that CCC-Liv (Women's World Tour) is an independent organization and has its own sponsorship agreement with the CCC (and other sponsors).
"To date all sponsors have fulfilled their obligations. There is no reason to assume that this season will "not survive."
It was reported in early April that CCC's billionaire owner, Dariusz Mirek, is considering cutting spending as the company's stock price has fallen 90% compared to 2018 and first-quarter revenue is down 9% year over year due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Players on the men's CCC team have accepted a 50% pay cut to continue racing on the revised late-season calendar, which is expected to run from August 1 through November 8, reports Het Nieuwsblad and La Gazzetta dello Sport. According to reports in Het Nieuwsblad and La Gazzetta dello Sport, CCC will end its title sponsorship this year.
The CCC-Liv team told Cycling News in April that it was continuing to prepare for a possible restart of the racing season despite the news that CCC was in financial trouble. The team also said at the time that any statements on the matter were speculative.
"The coronavirus has not been fought off yet and we can't look into our crystal ball. Therefore, it is impossible to say what the world will look like in a few weeks or months, or what the sponsoring environment in sports will look like then." We are in discussions with the CCC and our sponsors to see how we can best anticipate what might happen to us."
The UCI suspended all racing until July 1 and suspended men's and women's World Tour races until August 1. The revised calendar will feature 18 Women's World Tour events, including five stage races, including the shortened Giro Rosa (September 11-19). It also includes La Course (August 29), three Ardennes Classics (La Flèche Wallonne (September 30), Liège-Bastogne-Liège (October 4), and Amstel Gold Race (October 10)), the Tour of Flanders (October 18), the new Paris-Roubaix ( There will also be 13 one-day races, including the new Paris-Roubaix (October 25).
While racing is suspended, CCC-Liv is actively participating in virtual rides and races offered on the Zwift platform. Marianne Vos won the opening stage, and Ashley Moolman Pasio won three stages.
"We hope that now, especially with the rapidly improving world situation, everyone is healthy and the economic damage is limited," a spokesperson told Cycling News. During periods when there are no races, we offer sponsors and fans an alternative: weekly CCC-Liv Fun Rides on Zwift and Q&A sessions with our sponsors on social media." Of course, the riders will continue to prepare as best they can for the re-launch of the cycling season."
