Elinor Backstedt fractured tibia.

Trek Segafredo revealed Sunday that Elinor Backstedt broke her tibia in a training crash. The British rider was taken to the hospital and may need to undergo surgery on Monday to treat the fracture.

"I must inform you that Elinor Backstedt fell earlier today and suffered a spiral fracture of her tibia. Elinor is scheduled to undergo surgery tonight. We will provide you with as much detailed information as possible. We wish her a speedy recovery," Trek Segafredo said on Twitter.

Trek Segafredo later confirmed that the team's doctor had spoken with doctors at the hospital, and a decision on whether Backstedt needs surgery will be made on Monday.

"Surgery will not be performed tonight, the decision on whether it is necessary will be made tomorrow. Trek Segafredo later posted a follow-up on Twitter.

Backstedt will begin her first season with Trek-Segafredo, the professional women's world team, in 2020. She is a two-time bronze medalist in the junior women's time trial at the UCI Road World Championships (2018 and 2019) and is one of Britain's brightest talents.

Originally from Pontyclun, Wales, she recently moved to Belgium to train full time.
