Gourpama-FDJ sprinter Arnaud Demaret fell and broke his wrist while training for a mountain bike ride.
According to L'Equipe, Demare fell last week while riding near his home in the Picardy region of northern France and broke the navicular bone in his left wrist.
His morale seems high, but it was still a further blow to Demare's season. DeMare was one of a number of riders on the UAE tour who, due to a coronavirus crisis, was placed under house arrest in an Abu Dhabi hotel for 11 days after the race before being allowed to return home.
Demaret then became one of a number of France-based professional athletes forced to train indoors until May 11, when the country's COVID-19 regulations were partially lifted, allowing them to train outdoors again. [Groupama-FDJ manager Marc Madiot told Le Parisien over the weekend. 'But he has had bad luck since the beginning of the season.'
It is hoped that the accident will not affect Demare's first target after the competition resumes, which is said to be the August 8 Milan-San Remo race (which the 28-year-old won in 2016).
"I spoke to him on the phone and he is fine. It was just a stupid crash. He lost control and crashed, but I think he will be ok," Madiotto said.
