I believe we can win at the Monument," said Wout Van Art.

Jumbo Visma's Wout Van Aert told Dutch media that his goal for the "next few years" is to win one of the Monuments (the five major one-day races in cycling).

Appearing on the In Het Wiel podcast of Dutch newspaper Algemeen Dagblad, the Belgian said that while the coronavirus outbreak continues in Europe, it remains to be seen if the modified races in the UCI's new 2020 calendar can be held, but that the August 1 He said he hopes to resume the season with Strade Bianche on August 1, followed by Milan-San Remo (August 8) and the Tour de France (August 29-September 20).

After the Tour, Van Aert will take on the "spring" classics. Ghent-Wevelgem, Tour de Flanders, and Paris-Roubaix will be held in the fall this year, on October 11, 18, and 25, respectively.

"A few years ago, I set a goal to see how far I could get in the Classics.

"That's my goal for the next few years. Winning the Tour de Flanders or Paris-Roubaix is not so easy.

"And after that, I'm sure I can ride some great cyclocross," said the three-time cyclocross world champion. But until and including Roubaix, the focus is definitely on the road."

The 25-year-old also recalled the day he rode his first time trial bike, six months after crashing out of his debut on stage 13 of last year's Tour de France time trial in Pau.

"I looked at the bike and the saddle was tilted," he said. 'Then I thought it was the same bike I had crashed on, and fear came over me.'

"But it turned out it wasn't. The team staff quickly informed me that it was a technical problem, that the saddles on all the bikes were tilted. I know it sounds stupid, but that's how I felt."
