Peeters and Uneken Extend Boels Dolmans Contract

Boels Dolmans has announced a two-year contract extension with European champion Amy Peters and a four-year extension with Roneke Uneken. The team will change sponsorships next year, with SD Worx taking over until 2024.

Pieters is also a world champion in track Madison with compatriot Kirsten Wilde. Danny Stam, manager of Boels Dolmans, said Peeters will focus on the 2021 Olympics.

"With the addition of Amy Peeters, we expect her to be very successful on the track at next year's Olympics in Tokyo. She and Kirsten Wilde are the athletes to beat in Madison."

"Amy's road cycling has also shown strong growth over the last two years. Not only is she an ideal team player, but her fast sprints are matched by her ability to finish. She has already won the Tour of Drenthe, GP Plouay, and the Healthy Aging Tour.

"Her great performances on the road last summer culminated in a European road title in Alkmaar. I am confident that she will continue her reign as one of the best road cyclists in the world for the next two years."

Pieters said she has decided to sign on for two more seasons to focus on next year's Tokyo Olympics and the full road season in 2022.

"I consciously signed on for two more years to focus on road cycling in 2022; for two years the team has given me the freedom to optimize my focus on the track, and I hope to return the favor with a strong road season in 2022," she said.

Uneken, 20, turned pro at Hitech in 2019 and joined Boels Dolmans this year. In her first season as a pro, Uneken earned top-10 finishes at the BeNe Ladies Tour, Boels Ladies Tour, and Healthy Ageing Tour. This spring, she placed 7th at Le Samin des Dames. She has set her sights on the 2024 Olympics as her long-term goal.

"She is only 20 years old, but in the two spring races in February she immediately showed the ability to keep up with the best riders on the team. She had interesting finishes in both Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and GP Samyn." She could be the "new" Chantal Black. She has the same qualities and is also very driven. She is a rider who, despite her young age, knows exactly what she wants."

The team announced earlier this year that SD Worx will be its new title sponsor for the next four years. In addition, Anna van der Breggen will retire in 2021 and Chantal van den Broeck-Blake in 2022. Both players will become team directors.

"My four-plus year contract is proof of that," Uneken said. 'Since the first training camp last winter, I've fit in well with this team. The first competition went well and promised much more. When Danny Stam gave me this offer, I didn't hesitate for a second."

"My first big goal is the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Being able to work towards it in this familiar environment gives me a sense of security. Another great advantage is that Anna van der Breggen and Chantal Black are still active as team leaders and coaches after their careers. It is very special to have such great champions as mentors."
