According to French media reports, the organizers of the men's Bretagne Classic Ouest-France and the women's GP de Plouay-Lorient Agglomeration Trophée WNT have proposed holding the championships just before this year's Tour de France The postponed UEC Road European Championships may now be held during the season.
The 2020 European Championships were scheduled to take place in Trentino, Italy, from September 9-13, but were cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak and its impact on Italy, and will instead be held at the same venue at about the same time in 2021. According to [L'Equipe], the UEC contacted Plouay's mayor, Gwen Le Nay, who informed the organizers of the men's one-day World Tour race, the Bretagne Classic, and the women's GP de Plouay-Lorient of the possibility.
"We are ready to organize the events, adjusting the program and the dates to host the Bretagne Classic and the GP de Plouay-Lorient," Jean-Yves Trumbaud told L'Equipe on Sunday.
The organizers had scheduled the two races for August 25 and 26, but will probably be changed to an earlier date on the UCI calendar or perhaps more likely a later date.
"The European elite men's road race will be held on Wednesday, August 26, and the riders can go from there to the Tour de France," said Tranvaux, who moved the Tour from August 29 to September 20, with Nice as the starting point.
The news has not yet been officially announced, as it requires permission from health authorities, but Tranveau hopes the championships will be held the week before the Tour.
"I think we will know more in early June, when it should be announced as the second phase of the deconfinement in France.
