The UCI has decided to hold the VOO Tour de Wallonie on August 16-19. Originally scheduled for July 27-31, the road calendar had to be drastically changed due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The 2.1-ranked stage race won by Loïc Vliegen (Wanty Gobert) in 2019 will follow the 1.1-ranked Doire d'Het Hagelan, whose date was set this week for August 15.
Christophe Brandt, managing director of the TRW Organization, which also organizes the Grand Prix de Wallonie (September 16), has shortened the race by one day.
"We are very pleased to offer our athletes the possibility to compete in the Tour of Wallonie in 2020," Brandt said in a press release. Our race will be held over four days instead of five, allowing our riders to be ideally conditioned for the World Tour that follows." We also took into account the international calendar for 2020.
The Tour de Wallonie coincides with the end of the Criterium du Dauphiné, the Giro delle Miglia of the Pro Series, and the 2.1 Tour du Limousin. The World Tour of Brittany Classic will take place on August 23, and the Tour de France will begin on August 29.
