Canyon-SRAM to Develop Preventive Sanitation Measures Ahead of Calendar Revision

Canyon-SRAM is working with its medical team to develop preventive health measures to protect riders during the revised Women's World Tour calendar, which runs from August 1 to November 8. Team owner Ronnie Lauke told Cycling News that the team is ready to implement such strategies before the races begin.

"We are working with the medical team on preventive measures to protect the health of the riders and staff, and ultimately the group and community.

On May 5, the UCI announced a revised 2020 Women's World Tour calendar, replacing plans that were cancelled due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The top-level series will retain 16 of its 22 events, including five stage races, 11 one-day events, and the surprise addition of the inaugural women's Paris-Roubaix.

Canyon-SRAM, one of eight world teams, includes Alena Amialiushik, Alice Burns, Hannah Burns, Elena Cecchini, Tiffany Cromwell, Tanya Ellas, Pauline Ferrand-Prevot, Rotem Gafinowicz, Ella Harris, Lisa Klein, Hannah Ludwig, Kasia Niewiadoma, Krista Riffel, Alexis Ryan, Omer Shapira, Jessica Pratt, and 16 other riders.

Rauke said the Women's World Tour has 16 competitions and nine lower category competitions, and that by 2020 there will be enough racing for all riders to be competitive. However, she stressed that as the COVID-19 epidemic progresses and public health restrictions in each country are eased, it will ultimately determine which races will be held.

"We have 16 riders on the team, and given the situation, we aim to provide an attractive race program for all of them," Lauke said. At this point, it is difficult to foresee what will happen. We can't predict how the pandemic will develop, so we need to remain flexible with respect to a possible program.

Several of the men's World Tour teams have begun planning high-altitude training camps in preparation for the start of the revised season. Lauke could not confirm at this time whether Canyon-SRAM would conduct a similar camp.

"As for training camps, we are still in the planning stages and continue to evaluate the status of travel restrictions around the world.
