Team Ineos Hosts Second Zwift Race on Saturday

Team Ineos will host its second virtual race on the Zwift platform on Saturday, June 6, with WorldTour team riders on Zwift's Yorkshire course, a replica of the Harrogate finish circuit used for the 2019 UCI Road World Championships They are expected to compete for bragging rights at.

Team Ineos held its first so-called eRace on April 12, with Rohan Dennis taking the lone win in the Alpe d'Zwift mountain finish. Rohan Dennis used his World Championship-winning time trial skills to pull away from his teammates early in the climb, with Eddie Dunbar in second place after a chase attempt and Michal Kwiatkowski in third.

Team Ineos suggested that the undulating Yorkshire course offered "the opportunity for a dynamic and attacking race where team tactics are crucial."

The race will start at 6 p.m. CET on June 6 and will be broadcast live on the team's Facebook and YouTube channels.

Almost the entire Team Ineos roster competed in the race in April. Team Ineos says that more details on the duration of the race and the rider lineup will be announced before Saturday's race.

Whether Chris Froome will race against Tour de France team leader rivals Egan Bernal and Geraint Thomas depends on their recent comments and the possibility of a mid-season move to secure Froome's future beyond his current contract with Team Ineos. It will be interesting to see, given the Cycling News report that he is in talks with other teams about a possible move.

Froome and Thomas are currently training outdoors in the south of France, while Bernal is training at home in the Colombian highlands.

Last Thursday, French newspaper L'Equipe denied that Froome could change teams before the Tour de France in September, claiming that Team Ineos boss Dave Brailsford had promised the three riders separate sole leadership.

In a statement to Cycling News on Thursday, the team clarified their position.

"In a team with three previous Tour winners, everyone has shown that they are capable of leading the team and everyone is encouraged to be prepared to do so," a team spokesman said.

"Because so much changes in our sport, final role assignments will be made closer to the time when more information becomes available on each player's form and fitness, and who best fits the overall team strategy.

"Given the strength of our opponents this year, we know that the collective strength, cohesiveness, and experience of the team is what optimizes our chances of winning.
