Team Sunweb announced the signing of German teenager Marco Brenner.

The 17-year-old will join the young German-registered World Toursted movement, which has signed seven Neo Pros for 2020 and has an average age of 25. Uno X youngster Andreas Leeknesund will also join the team next year.

Team Sunweb, which has moved Tom Dumoulin to Jumbo Visma, is now led by Michael Matthews, Tiesj Benoot, and Sam Omen.

Brenner won 20 races at the junior level in 2019, including the Tour de Pays de Vaud, German road and time trial titles, Junior Tour of Austria, and GP General Patton. He is also the German junior cyclocross champion and placed third in the Yorkshire World Championships junior time trial.

"Team Sunweb has a great track record of helping young talent grow, and I like that the team gives me time to develop and share goals for the future," Brenner said.

[Brenner impressed the team at last year's Deutsche Talent-Tage, a day when 13 young riders underwent tests and workshops with Team Sunweb coaches in collaboration with the German Cycling Federation.

Team head coach Rudy Kemna said he is confident that the team is well suited for Marco's continued development.

"Marco is a German Talentage and has impressed us greatly with his excellent performance in the tests and as a standout in the workshops. In 2019 he has shown that he can translate test results into great race results and we see him as one of the biggest young talents in the peloton."
