Sibiu Cycling Tour postponed to late July

The Sibiu Cycling Tour has been postponed from its scheduled date of early July due to concerns about how the coronavirus outbreak will affect the organization of the event.

"The 10th edition of the Cyclist Tour of Sibiu will take place from July 23-26, 2020. [Originally scheduled to run from July 2-5, the Sibiu Tour became the first UCI event on the world road racing calendar after a pandemic forced an interruption.

"After analyzing the current situation and considering the travel restrictions from most countries on the continent in early July that could affect the start of the Sibiu Tour, as well as quarantine regulations, we discussed the new dates with the teams that had committed to participate and concluded that late July would be suitable for the event.

Last year, Kevin Rivera of Costa Rica, a member of the Italian Pro Continental team Androni Giocattoli Cidermec, won the overall championship with a 2.1 finish, but this year, for the first time in the competition's history, two World Tour teams will participate.

With the postponement of the Sibiu Cycling Tour, the first UCI-sanctioned elite-level event will be the men's and women's versions of the Grand Prix Erciyes, a 1.2-class one-day race in Turkey on July 11.

The first World Tour event will be the Strade Bianche, an Italian one-day race on August 1.
