Virtual Joe Martin Stage Race to be held June 19-21

The postponed Joe Martin Stage Race will hold a three-day virtual version on the Zwift platform in mid-June.

In light of the protests now taking place in cities around the world, Project Echelon, organizers of the virtual race, said in a press release on World Bike Day Wednesday: "Sport has long been a place where people come together and celebrate human achievement. In addition, sport has been a place where people of color and the oppressed are given a voice and platform that they might not otherwise have."

The project also noted that "sports have been a way to bring people of color and the oppressed together to celebrate human achievement and to celebrate human achievement.

The three-day virtual race is open to both men and women, with an 8 km (5 mi) individual time trial on the opening stage on June 19, a 71 km (44 mi) road race the following day, and a final 65 km (40.4 mi) road race stage on June 21 will take place.

"In honor of the current 'Black Lives Matter' movement and the need to address inequality in society, the riders will observe a minute of silence after the starting banner is lowered on the second stage.

"Additionally, in memory of those who lost their lives and their families in the global COVID-19 pandemic, the riders will hold a 1km neutral rollout after the moment of silence on stage 2.

"Through this virtual event, we hope to bring people together in a positive way and share a unifying message of hope, 11]

." We look forward to continuing to use these events to bring the cycling community together through competition."" We will also continue to build a stronger sense of connection through media and outreach around the events."""

The goal of the Project Echelon team, which races as a squad on the US circuit, is to "educate, equip, and empower veterans through physical activity," mentorship programs, partnerships with cycling companies to provide discounted bikes and equipment, and subsequent empowerment through physical fitness.

The race is typically held in Arkansas in early April, and in 2019, Stephen Bassett of First Internet Bank Cycling won the overall men's race and Chloe Diggart of Sho-Air Twenty20 won the women's race.
