Trek-Segafredo announced Monday that it has agreed to a two-year contract extension with Bauke Mollema. The team also confirmed that Morema and teammate Richie Porte will co-lead the Tour de France, which runs from August 29 to September 20.
Morema, who won last year's Il Lombardia, said the team's structure will allow him to challenge himself as a rider. The top priority for me was to extend my contract with Trek-Segafredo, and thankfully the team did the same," Morema said in the team's press release.
"I feel great trust from the team and our sponsors. We have enjoyed some great moments together over the past years, but I still have great ambitions and so does the team."
"The team's current performance structure gives me confidence that I can continue to grow and challenge myself as a rider. I am delighted to have renewed my contract with Trek-Segafredo for another two years and I am confident that once I race again I will be able to continue to be successful."
Morema, 33, joined the team, then called Trek Factory Racing, in 2015. He has 14 career wins, 10 of them with Trek-Segafredo, two Grand Tour stage wins in the 2013 Vuelta a España and the 2017 Tour de France, and five top-10 overall finishes in Grand Tours.
"Bauke is a pillar of Trek Segafredo. He has consistently delivered solid results and his victory at Lombardia was the cherry on the cake," said team general manager Luca Guercilena.
"Bauke's style of racing is perfectly in line with the team spirit of always "Fight, fight, fight!" I believe that it perfectly matches the team spirit of "Fight, Fight, Fight! We are determined to keep the momentum going, to perform, to win, and to set an example for the young riders. Bauke is one of Trek-Segafredo's leading riders and we are proud to have him represent our team for the time being."
