Absolute Black Introduces New Graphene-Based Chain Lube Touted for Long Life and Efficiency

Absolute Black has added a new graphene-infused chain lubricant to its lineup.

The cycling brand known for its oval chainrings has developed a new hydrocarbon lubricant containing graphene, and AbsoluteBlack claims that its formulation is durable for each application and reduces friction over extended use.

Graphene Lube, which took two years to develop, uses a wax-based water emulsion without toxic solvents.

When applied correctly, its durability is astounding. According to Absolute Black, a single application of this new lubricant will last for up to 1,800 km. Graphene makes this lubrication durability possible. Graphene has a low coefficient of friction and can successfully fill the microscopic irregularities in the drivetrain's surface to prevent wear.

Graphene also repels water and resists oxidation, preventing the chain from rusting. The tremendous strength of graphene makes it a very effective lubricant additive, even in a single atomic layer; in AbsoluteBlack's controlled tests, the new lubricant has recorded energy savings of up to 7 watts. [AbsoluteBlack sells this new graphene lubricant in two capacities: a 14 ml canister costs £11.99 ($14.95) and a 140 ml AbsoluteBLACK graphene lubricant costs £114.99 ($145.95).
