Bontrager Introduces Four New Aeolus Wheelsets

Bontrager today announced four new road wheelsets in its Aeolus series. The top-of-the-line Aeolus RSL 37, the mid-range Aeolus Pro 37, and the affordable Aeolus Elite, available in 35mm and 50mm rim depths. The announcement was made at the same time as the new Trek Emonda, which was unveiled today by Bontrager's parent company, Bontrager.

All of the new models are purely disc brake specific, tubeless compatible, and will come with tubeless rim strips, conventional rim tape, and tubeless valves. All are Shimano 10/11 speeds and SRAM 10/11 speeds, and 12sp freehubs are available separately.

The top-of-the-line Aeolus RSL 37 will be fitted to the new Emonda SLR 9 model, sold separately for $2,399.98 (UK, EU, and Australian prices TBA).

At 1,325 grams per set, the Aeolus RSL 37 is Bontrager's lightest aero wheel ever, made of OCLV RSL carbon and 55 grams lighter than the previous Aeolus XXX wheels, which Bontrager claims are 15 percent faster.

The front and rear rims have the same rim shape, 21mm ID and 28mm OD; both are paired with DT240 hubs with 24 DT Swiss Aerolite bladed spokes, while the rear hub features DT Swiss' lightweight and durable Ratchet EXP freehub.

The Iolos Pro 37 wheels are fitted on the remaining Emonda SLR models, as well as the Emonda SL 7 and SL 7 eTap. They are sold separately for $1,299.98.

These wheels use the same rim geometry as the RSL wheels, so they benefit from the same aerodynamic properties, but are made of lower modulus OCLV Pro carbon fiber. The same 24/24 spoke count is used, as well as DT Swiss Aerolite spokes, but the hubs have been swapped out of the DT240 for the lower cost DT350.

In total, these performance-on-a-budget wheels weigh 1,505 grams for the pair.

The Aeolus Elite wheels are made of OCLV carbon and come in two depths: a shallow, lightweight 35mm rim and a deeper, more aero-friendly 50mm. The Aeolus Elite 35 is mounted on the new Emonda SL 6 Pro and costs $900.

Both options use Grand Strada spokes with a 24/24 spoke count and have center-lock hubs with 12mm thru-axles.

The 35mm deep wheels weigh 1,665g per set and have a rim width of 19mm inside diameter and 27mm outside diameter; naturally, the 50mm rims weigh a bit more at 1,730g and have the same 19mm inside width but are 1mm wider outside at 28mm.

No rider weight restrictions apply to any of the new wheels, and all are covered by a lifetime warranty and Bontrager's Carbon Care wheel loyalty program.
