Miguel Angel Lopez will race exclusively in France before making his Tour de France debut in August, while Astana teammate Jacob Fuglsang will lead the team in the Giro d'Italia before competing in the Tour de Pologne and Tirreno Adriatico. He will compete in.
On Friday, Astana confirmed its race program for the remainder of the season, which was interrupted by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
Lopez, who is currently training at home in Colombia, will return to Europe in mid-July to participate in the team's training camp in the Sierra Nevada, Spain.
Returning to competition, the 26-year-old will ride La Route d'Occitanie (August 1-4) on a similar program to compatriot and Tour champion Egan Bernal, and will compete in the Mont Ventoux Dénivelé Challenge (August 6). López took a stage win and third overall at the Volta ao Algarve in February in 2020; in 2018 he finished on the podium at both the Giro and the Vuelta a España and will lead Astana's GC challenge at this year's Tour.
Astana also confirmed that Fuglsang will skip the Tour to focus on leading Astana in the rescheduled Giro, which is scheduled to run from October 3-25.
Fuglsang, who won the Vuelta a Andalucía in February, will resume competition at the Strade Bianche on August 1, followed by the Tour de Pollogne (August 5-9). The Dane will return to Italy to race the Gran Piemonte (August 12) and Il Lombardia (August 15). Final preparations for the Giro will take place at Tirreno-Adriatico, September 8-14.
Meanwhile, Alexey Lutsenko will target one-day races in Italy in early August, riding Strade Bianche, Legiona Lombardia, Milan - Torino, and Milan - Sanremo. After that, he and Lopez will compete in the Criterium du Dauphiné before heading to the Giro d'Emilia (August 18), the last race before the Tour de France.
