Lars Boom Named Performance Manager at CCC-Liv

CCC-Liv has hired Tour de France stage winner and former cyclocross world champion Lars Boom as performance manager ahead of the first women's Paris-Roubaix in October.

Boom is without a contract for 2019 after the Roompot-Charles team disbanded, switching her focus to gravel and mountain bike racing.

"I still feel like a cyclist," he said. But at the same time, I am very aware of my future to be an important part of the cycling world," Boom said in a team press release.

"With my experience and interest in equipment and technology, I think I can add value to the peloton."

The CCC-Liv team will rely on Boom's expertise in the pavé (he won the cobbled stage of the 2014 Tour de France to the rainy Arenberg Porte du Hainaut and finished fourth in the 2015 Paris-Roubaix) to help the team Liv bikes and CADEX wheels testing and optimization.

"When I got in touch with CCC-Liv and heard about their preparations for the first women's Paris-Roubaix, my 'move' to performance manager accelerated," Boom said. 'Paris-Roubaix is my favorite course. I was drawn to it by the ambition of the team."

The CCC-Liv athletes met Boom in the twice-weekly video conference that has become a tradition for the team since the COVID-19 craze began.

"During the online meeting we discussed Paris-Roubaix and our approach. This summer we will go to the northern section of France to test our new equipment," Boom said.

"As soon as the ASO announces the course, we will also do some reconnaissance. There are many other races besides Paris-Roubaix where we can step it up a notch if our performance management is good."

Team owner Eric van den Boom welcomed the new additions to the team, saying that Boom will serve as performance manager for a "longer period of time" and that current performance manager Hidde Beckhuis will also remain with the team.

"[Bekhuys] has proven to have a very broad and strong scientific background. Combined with Lars' practical experience, we should be able to make further progress. Not only in the coming months, but also in the future," van den Boom said.
