19-year-old British rider Anna Shackley has signed a two-year contract to join the SD Worx women's team next season. The Dutch team is currently known as Boels Dolmans and includes Anna van der Breggen, Amy Pieters, Jolien D'hoor, and Chantal Blaak.
Last season, Shackley finished 12th in the junior women's road race at the UCI Road World Championships in Yorkshire, 13th overall at the Women's Tour of Scotland in her native Scotland, and at the Dutch She placed third overall at the Watersley Ladies Challenge.
At the British Track Championships in January, Shackley was national champion in the points race and was also part of the British Cycling Academy's Team Breeze team that won gold in Team Pursuit.
"I am very proud to have this top team as a member," Shackley said in a team press release Tuesday.
She added that she wants to grow as a climber, and with her new team she has the opportunity to move in that direction. [I want to be a competitor in events like the Giro d'Italia. I want to be a good climber at competitions like the Giro d'Italia. I also want to do well in hilly one-day races like Liège-Bastogne-Liège."
By riding alongside Olympic road race champion Van der Breggen and former road race world champion Blake, Shackley will be able to learn from the best in the world.
"I have yet to meet these women in person, but I have watched the women's race many times on television over the past few years, so I know what they have accomplished. I hope to learn a lot from their wealth of experience over the next few years."
Boels Dolmans sports director Danny Stam added that he is looking forward to Shackley joining the team, now SD Walks, next season.
"We have given her a two-year contract with the option to extend it for two more years. We are confident that she brings a unique driving force to the table." Developing such a talented rider will be a great challenge."
"We are very excited to have her join our team.
