The Spanish non-profit organization Manuela Fundacion has reportedly made an offer to Mitchelton Scott owner Jerry Ryan to buy the team's World Tour license for €10 million.
According to the Spanish newspaper AS, the offer was emailed to Jerry Ryan on Thursday. The deal apparently includes Manuela Fundación covering staff and rider wages through 2020, as well as the World Tour license itself.
Two weeks of negotiations between Manuela Fundación and Mitchelton Scott's team manager, Shayne Bannan, resulted in an agreement on June 5.
A week later, a bombshell press release announced that a Spanish NGO would take over the team midway through the season.
However, in an interview with Ride Media less than a week later, Ryan claimed that the team license was his and that the team's future was still undecided.
Shortly thereafter, it was announced by the Australians that the takeover by Manuela Fundacion had been called off. The Spaniard had already begun removing the previous Mitchelton-Scott colors from the team car, even though permission had been granted by the UCI for a new team kit. The Australian statement also said that Ryan would financially support the team in 2021 and restore full payments to staff and riders from August onwards.
However, former Giro d'Italia winner Stefano Garzelli, who represented Manuela Fundacion in the negotiations, told the Italian news website Cicloweb that "the company's transfer agreement is signed and valid."
However, sources close to the team told Cyclingnews that the only agreement signed was a "Heads of Terms" document, he said.
In any case, according to AS, undeterred by this setback, Manuela Fundacion owner Francisco Huertas has now made an offer directly to Jerry Ryan to buy out the team's license. Apparently, there has been no response yet; Cyclingnews reached out to Manuela Fundacion for a response to this story, but was unsuccessful.
