Philippe Gilbert Announces 2020 Schedule

Philippe Gilbert has announced his schedule for the 2020 season, and the 37-year-old will start at Strade Bianche, which he won in 2011.

The race will be the first of a series of Italian classics that Gilbert will be competing in in August, with Milan-San Remo preceded by Milano-Torino. He leads the Lotto Soudal in La Primavera and said last week that he hopes to conquer the five monuments.

In mid-August, he will take on the four-day Tour de Wallonie, and in 10 days he will be looking to make his 10th Tour de France appearance. Gilles, who is looking for his second career stage win in France, will be part of a strong Lotto team that includes Thomas Degent, Caleb Yuan, Tim Wellens, and John Degenkolb.

Gilbert will take a two-week break after the Tour and will look to win the spring classic, Liège-Bastogne-Liège.

The Tour de Flanders and Paris-Roubaix, which he won in 2017 and 2019, are also on Gilbert's calendar, and Hell in the North is the final race on the Belgian's 2020 schedule.

Gilbert will train with Lotto Soudal's Tour de France team "Bubble" as the team prepares to resume its season. He will join Ewan, Wellens, Degenkolb, and others in a camp in the mountains of central France in mid-July. The other groups on the team will also train together according to a schedule.

Gilbert, who was with the lot for three years until 2011, will move to the lot in 2020. He also competed in Volta a la Comunidad Valenciana, Volta ao Algarve, and Paris-Nice before the COVID-19 epidemic shut down all of Europe and postponed the cycling season.

Since then, Gilbert has been in the news several times, including being fined for outdoor training in Monaco and breaking the La Redoute Strava record featured in Liège-Bastogne-Liège.
