Mathieu Van Der Pol's Alpecin Phoenix has received a wild card for all the Classics that RCS Sport will host in August.
Van der Pol will also compete in Tirreno-Adriatico in September in preparation for the UCI Road World Championship road race and the cobbled classics scheduled for October.
The Alpecin Phoenix team approached ASO, the organizer of the Tour de France, to invite additional teams to the changed race, but other officials opposed the idea, leaving the original 22 teams on the starting line. Van der Pol and his teammates will study the Paris-Roubaix and today's Tour de Flanders routes and will ride the Ghent-Wevelgem route as their first training camp on Wednesday.
RCS Sport announced wildcards for the spring race in January, but an August date changed by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic has shuffled the peloton and secured Van der Pol's presence for the Italian race.

Fourteen WorldTour teams will race Milan-Torino and 11 teams will race Gran Piemonte, with six and eight professional teams completing the start lists, respectively.
