Evenpoel and Bennett lead the quickstep at the Vuelta a Burgos

Remco Evenpole (open in new tab) and Sam Bennett will lead Detuninck Quick Step (open in new tab) back into action at the Vuelta a Burgos (open in new tab) later this month.

The Belgian team will send a team to the Grote Prijs Vermarc Sport kermesse this weekend, but the five-stage Vuelta a Burgos, which runs from July 28 to August 1, will be their official return to professional competition.

After winning the Vuelta a San Juan and the Volta ao Algarve and having their season interrupted by a coronavirus outbreak, Evenpoel will be looking for their third GC title of the season heading into October's Giro d'Italia.

Evenpoel, whose overall title will be decided by the summit finish of Picón Blanco on stage 3 and Lagunas de Neira on stage 5, will be supported by Joao Almeida and Andrea Bagioli, the key players in his Algarve victory.

"It's been a long time since I've been away from racing for five months, and this situation is completely new for all of us.

"It will be important to see how our bodies react to the hot temperatures and tough routes in this first competition, but we are motivated.

Bennett, meanwhile, will be aiming for the group sprints expected on the flat second and fifth stages. Bennett, a native of Ireland, has won two races since moving from Bora-Hansgrohe, one at the Tour Down Under and the other at Race Torquay.

"It feels great to be back racing. As a matter of fact, it feels like the first day back at school," Bennett said.

"I haven't had a lot of season so far this year, so I'm looking forward to doing what I love most again. Burgos will be a good opportunity to check my form and test myself. Everyone misses cycling and will be happy to be racing again."
