Honoré extends contract with Deceuninck Quickstep

Mikel Honoré has extended his contract with Deceuninck Quickstep until the end of the 2021 season. Mikel Onore turned pro with this team last year.

"My first year with the Wolfpack was truly unforgettable. [This is] a great team with great teammates and a great environment to grow and learn. I want to thank the team, staff, and sponsors for their faith in me. It has given me even more motivation to get better and work harder to achieve my goals."

Like fellow countryman Kasper Asgreen, 23-year-old Honoré started his career with Team Virtue Cycling in Denmark before stepping up to the World Tour level with Deceuninck-Quick Step. Last season he made his Grand Tour debut, finishing 101st overall in the Giro d'Italia. He also supported Julian Alaphilippe in the Ardennes Classics and finished 10th overall in the Adriatica Ionica race.

Honoré competed in the Tour Colombia 2.1 and finished 7th in the Von Ardèche Classic. He will join his Deceuninck-QuickStep teammates at a training camp in Italy this week in preparation for the season resumption scheduled for the end of July.

"I can't wait to join the training camp in Val di Fassa this week and get ready for the season to resume," Honoré said.

Patrick Lefebvre, who welcomed the contract extension, described Honoré as "a very talented and versatile rider" and "a selfless team player."

Deceuninck-QuickStep also recently announced contract extensions for Yves Lampert, Dries Devenance, and Iljo Caisse, while Bob Jungels has yet to agree to a 2021 contract.

"Jungels is a super rider, but he has to be reasonable," Lefebvre told Wielerflits (open in new tab). 'To be clear, I'm not going to drop my pants [to sign Jungels].'
