Tacey Overcomes Knee Injury to Win Two Stages of Virtual Tour de France

April Tacey (Drops) overcame a debilitating knee injury to win the second stage of the Virtual Tour de France on Sunday. The British rider spent three months in rehabilitation after suffering a knee injury in December, but recovered to finish her first event, which took place over three weekends from July 4 to July 19.

"Zwift was very helpful in my rehabilitation, training and racing," Teasy said in an interview after winning stage 4.

"I was off the bike for three months and started riding again in March, doing a lot of rehab and Zwift, then training and racing to recover. I've just started working on my efforts this past month. This event is good to get me ready for the race."

The Virtual Tour de France includes some of the world's top teams, including Boels Dolmans, Canyon SRAM, TIBCO-SVB, Sunweb, Trek-Segafredo, FDJ Nouvelle Aquitaine Futuroscope, and Yale BTC Ljubljana The event is based on a points system. The points system is based on a point system, with 50 points awarded to the first finisher and the top 25 finishers. The winners of the intermediate sprint and the mountain sprint also receive 10 points. The team with the most points at the finish line will be the overall leader.

Tacey won the opening stage of the virtual Tour de France for the first time last weekend. This put her Drops team in first place overall and allowed her to wear the coveted yellow jersey on the second stage.

TIBCO-SVB extended its lead with a stage 2 win by Lauren Stephens and maintained its No. 1 ranking after Tanya Ellas (Canyon-SRAM) won stage 3 and Tacy won stage 4.

Teyssie was separated on the final climb of the R.G.V. route and barely managed to catch the 11-man lead group with 1km to go. She timed her aero power-up to perfection in the last 100 meters to pull away from second-place Anna Henderson (Sunweb) and third-place Lauren Stevens (TIBCO-SVB).

"I used the aero boost at the end. I was four seconds behind a group of four or five on the last climb." I caught up with 1.5km to go. The AeroBoost gave me 15 seconds to spare. I had to make sure I didn't go too fast. I try to use mine a little bit after [my rivals] have gone and make that last little kick toward the finish."

ASO has announced the 23 teams that will compete in the Tour de France La Course in Nice on August 29. Tacy's Drops team did not receive an invitation, but she hopes to compete in next year's event.

"It was a great opportunity to compete in the virtual Tour de France," said Tacy. 'This event allowed me to give back to my sponsors. It would be great to run La Course next year."
