Nairo Quintana returns from a crash during practice

Nairo Quintana resumes training a little over a week after being hit by a car while driving on his home road in Colombia.

According to an announcement by Arkea Samsic, Quintana will miss two weeks after injuring his knee in the accident; Ciclismo Internacional (opens in new tab) reported that Quintana returned to training on Saturday (just eight days after the accident), The site published a video (opens in new tab) recorded by Colombian rider José Leonel Díaz showing him riding with compatriot and teammate Winner Anacona.

Despite restrictions on entry into Colombia due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Quintana will be flying to Europe later this month on a charter flight with fellow Colombian pro riders.

Quintana will return to competition at the Tour de Ain (August 7-9) and will also compete in the Criterium du Dauphiné (August 12-16) before the Tour de France in Nice on August 29.

The 30-year-old was the first rider to wear the colors of Arkea Samsic after joining the French Pro Continental team from Movistar in the off-season, and has put in a string of impressive performances early in the campaign.

Quintana won the Tour de la Provence and the Tour des Alpes Maritimes du Var, taking solo victories at Mont Ventoux and Col d'Eze in the process. He finished sixth overall in Paris-Nice, winning on the summit of La Colmiane on the final day.

After three podium finishes at the Tour, including second overall in 2013 and 2015 and third overall in 2016, Quintana is considered one of the favorites to win the overall in 2020. His Arkea-Samsic team announced last week that Quintana is "confident that this enforced rest will not affect in any way his preparation for the Tour de France, which is his goal for this year."
