Stuyven Announces Contract Extension and Race Schedule

Trek-Segafredo has announced a two-year contract extension with the team's oldest rider, Jasper Steuben. The Belgian rider turned pro with Trek-Segafredo in 2014, and his new contract will keep him with the team until the end of 2022.

Stuyven, 28, won the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad this year in a two-up sprint with Yves Lampert of Dečuninck-Quickstep for his second career win.

Stuyven also counts the 2016 Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne, the 2019 Deutschland Tour, a stage at the 2015 Vuelta a España, and two BinckBank Tour stages among his big wins He is the first person to win the Israeli Startup Nation. He had drawn interest from the Israeli Startup Nation, but remained committed to Trek-Segafredo.

"I'm really excited to continue racing for Trek-Segafredo," he said. I have a great team of riders and staff here, and we are 100% committed to each other. Not only are we colleagues here, but we are friends on and off the bike." [I've known Trek since before we started Trek Factory Racing, when I was on the development team. Being the rider with Trek-Segafredo the longest is a sign that I'm happy and at home, and I feel appreciated and respected on this team."

With Steuben's race calendar confirmed, his goals remain the same when the season resumes: to ride again at the Vuelta a Burgos on July 28, followed by the Tour de Pollogne, where he will support Bauke Mollema and Richie Porte in their fourth Tour de France

His interests then turned to cobbled classics, with Ghent-Wevelgem, Scheldeprijs, Tour de Flanders, Drydags-Bruges-des-Pannes, and Paris-Roubaix all scheduled for October.

"I want to achieve great results this season, especially in the classics. [Trek-Segafredo general manager Luca Guercilena said, "It is rare that a player and a team stay together for this long. We saw his potential right from the start and it has been especially rewarding to watch him grow as a rider and as a person."

"After struggling last spring, we are especially pleased to see Jasper step up this season and win on the big stage of the Classics. Jasper has the qualities to win big races and we are confident that we will enjoy even more success with him when racing resumes."
