Chris Froome to compete in the final round of the Virtual Tour de France

Team Ineos announced Thursday that Chris Froome will compete in the sixth and final stage of the Virtual Tour de France on Sunday. The final stage will take place on July 19 at Zwift's new cobbled Circuit des Champs-Elysées.

The Team Ineos team will be led by Froome and will also include Filippo Ganna, Chris Lawless, and Cameron Waugh.

The Tour de France was postponed to July due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak and was scheduled to run from August 29 to September 20. Due to a gap in the calendar, organizer ASO launched a virtual Tour de France on the Zwift platform.

The event ran over a three-day weekend from Saturday, July 4 to Sunday, July 19.

The 36.4 km opening stage took place on the Watopia Hill route, with Ryan Gibbons (NTT Pro Cycling) and April Teisey (Drops) winning both the men's and women's races on July 4. Julien Bernard (Trek-Segafredo) and Lauren Stevens (Tibco Silicon Valley Bank) won the second stage (29.5 km on Watopia Mountain).

Racing continued last weekend, with stage 3 won by Matteo Dalsin (Rally Cycling) and Tanya Erath (Canyon-SRAM) on the new French map R.G.V route. Stage 4 was a 45.8 km race on the Cassé-Pate route, won by Freddy Ovette (Israel Startup Nation).

The Virtual Tour de France continues, with stage 5 in Mont Ventoux next Saturday and the finale on Sunday with stage 6 on the Champs-Elysées.
