Garmin, a maker of GPS technology and wearable devices, has reportedly been hit by the WastedLocker ransomware in a cyberattack, demanding $10 million for data disclosure, BleepingComputer reported Thursday. under global disruption.

The cyberattack affects consumers using the Garmin Connect app's run and bike fitness sessions and pilots using the aviation database service, and all call centers are down.

"There is currently an outage affecting Garmin.com and Garmin Connect. 'This outage is also affecting our call center and we are currently unable to receive calls, emails, or online chats. We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible and apologize for this inconvenience."

Garmin confirmed through its FAQ (opens in new tab) that it has no reason to believe user data has been affected.

"Garmin has no indication that this outage has affected your data, including activity, payments, or other personal information."

BleepingComputer was reportedly sent screenshots showing a long list of the company's files encrypted by the malware, with a ransom note attached to each file. Sources told BleepingComputer that the ransom amount was $10 million, but the website could not independently confirm the amount.

ZDNet reports that Garmin is "planning a multi-day maintenance period is planned."

The company has also reportedly closed all databases and employee computers connected via VPN to prevent further spread of the ransomware.
