After a reported ransomware cyberattack, Garmin's service is beginning to make a comeback.
The Garmin Connect service is not yet fully functional, and our colleagues at TechRadar (opens in new tab) have found that they cannot see lists of recent workouts, recent steps, or other historical data in the app.
However, the fact that data is being transferred indicates that Garmin is recovering from system paralysis over the weekend.
"Garmin Connect has resumed service and the delayed activity has begun uploading to Strava. This is done automatically. Due to the high volume of activity, this may take a week or more.
Garmin has yet to officially comment on the restoration of functionality. In an earlier statement, the GPS technology and wearable device company spoke of a "failure," but did not address the suggestion that it had been hacked.
According to reports, Garmin is under cyber attack by the WastedLocker ransomware, which is demanding $10 million to release data. The FlyGarmin aeronautical database as well as Garmin Connect, which is used by many cyclists and runners, were affected.
Garmin confirmed through its FAQ (opens in new tab) that it has no reason to believe user data was affected.
"Garmin has no indication that this outage affected your data, including activity, payments, or other personal information.
