Worries that athletes would be moved from Romania's Sibiu Cycling Tour to Italy and forced to go through quarantine for upcoming races appear to be unfounded. According to Bardiani-CSF Fasane, the riders have returned to Italy and will be able to compete in this weekend's Strade Bianche.
On Friday, Italian Health Minister Roberto Speranza said, "I have just signed an ordinance ordering the quarantine of athletes who have been in Romania and Bulgaria for the past 14 days," sparking concern that the Sibiu Tour athletes would miss all Italian events from Milan to San Remo on August 8.
However, the players' quarantine was not approved by the Italian government.
However, Bardiani director Roberto Reverberi told Gazzetta.it on Monday that his riders had been given an exception.
"The riders returned on a plane that arrived in Bologna around 2 pm. There was no quarantine and they signed self-certification forms because they were in Romania for work reasons," Rebbelli said.
The Sibiu Tour athletes were tested for COVID-19 before the race, and Rebbelli said the athletes were tested twice.
Luca Covilli, Nicola Dalla Valle, Filippo Fiorelli, Lulli Filosi, and Matteo Perucchi are the team representatives in Romania, and Dalla Valle, Fiorelli, and Filosi are eligible to compete this weekend in Strade Bianche, Rebbelli said.
"Our staff will return by road instead, and even in this case there are no restrictions," he said.
