Rivera and Gheorghi Renew Contracts with Team Sunweb through 2021

Team Sunweb announced Tuesday that it has signed Colin Rivera and Pfeifer Gheorghi to one-year contract extensions, with the two remaining with the team through 2021.

Rivera said he was pleased with the contract renewals and hopes to have a healthy and fulfilling season with a focus on the rescheduled Tokyo Olympics.

"It is a natural extension of my contract with Team Sunweb. We have worked well together, learned and accomplished a lot together over the past four years. We have some promising young players here and I look forward to helping them grow on the World Tour," Rivera said. [2021] feels like a do-over of 2020, so I'm hoping to run a healthy and normal schedule for the spring classics and then focus on the Olympics and summer one-day races later in the year."

Rivera joined Sunweb's program in 2017, winning the Trofeo Binda, Tour of Flanders, and Prudential RideLondon Classic, and the following year she won the OVO Energy Women's Tour overall.

"Next year will be Colin's fifth year with the team, and he has produced many top results for us each season," said team director Hans Timmermans.

"Colin is also a strong and dedicated team player and an important cultural bearer within the team as one of our more experienced riders. On the bike, she continues to grow and her qualities are becoming more and more diverse." She is a dangerous rider on a variety of tracks.

Georgi, 19, joined Sunweb's program last year and competed in World Tour-level one-day and stage races. Her main role is to support the team in various terrains, and personal highlights include a bronze medal at the British U23 National Time Trial Championships and a top 10 finish at the European Championships.

Timmermans said the team will look to develop her talent in the classics next year, with a focus on strengthening her overall abilities.

"I am very excited to extend my contract with the team and appreciate their continued support, especially given the current global climate," Georgi said.

"It's a great place to continue to grow as a young rider while aspiring and learning from the coaches, experts, and other riders on the team. 2020 has started really well and I look forward to winning more races this year and in the future with the whole team. I'm looking forward to winning more races this year and in the future."
